What is Beta reading. That is when someone reads your book before or during the editing stages, to give you feedback on what they feel and see in your book.
Like, is the story engaging to then, are there inconsistencies, i.e. the MC's eye color changes from blue to brown, is there plot holes or missing scene's. This is a very important role, you know.
Copy editing is the step between substantive editing and proofreading. Copy editing is to polish the manuscript into clear and concise material, while maintaining the author’s voice and meaning. It is the copy editor's work to polish your work of art, into a brilliant piece to be proud of. They work through your written manuscript to find the following:
Grammar and Spelling
Tone and style deviations
Wordiness
Clunky transitions
Confusing syntax
Problematic or misused words
Uneven flow
Once the copy edit is done, your piece should read well, and not have any noticeable errors
Proofreading is the final step before publication. This is done to fix the last of the spelling, grammar, punctuation and the flow of the story's sentences for tone and clarity. These things should have been done by your editor. But the Proofreader takes the final look.
